It took much longer time to go to Kanchanaburi than we were led to believe, we spent the 3 hours waiting for the bus to take turns to go inside the A/C shopping mall by the bus stop.
We were finally on a mini bus, but instead of go to Kanchanaburi we ended up in the southern Bus terminal in Bangkok one hour later.
I was pretty happy to get of the bus, I got a seat between the driver and the passenger seat upfront and I didn't like to be pressed close to the windshield in the speed of 120 km/hour in the crazy traffic outside Bangkok.
We finally made it to Kanchanaburi and our very nice and spacious room at Taras B&B was very welcome!
In the evening we went to a bar with live music, the Thai band was really good and we had a lot of fun.
The next day we were curious to look around and see if the area had changed much since the last time we were here, about 10 years ago.
It has changed a lot, back then it was only one bar and a handful of guesthouses, today is the old dirt road paved and there is plenty of guesthouses and restuarants you can choose from.
We rented a couple of bikes and biked to "The Bridge over the River Kwai". This place had turned into an amusement park, with tons of tourists waiting in lines to take a trip with the old train over the bridge.
The next day we took the first bus to Erawan waterfall, about 70 km away. As we have been there before we know that the best time to visit is in the mornings, before the main stream of tourists arrive.
The waterfalls are very beautiful, but the lower than normal level of water didn't make the waterfalls and ponds as breathtaking as they can be.
When we left the park we were met by a lot of tourists arriving from Phuket and Khao Lak on tour buses, mainly Russians and Chinese. The park was really over-crowded and its sad because the park is really beautiful and walking there when it's fewer people is a very nice way to spend a day.
By now we had started to talk about the next destination, Khao Sok National park and how to get there.
But I have had pain in my left shoulder ever since we were in California and the last week it had gotten worst. We didn't feel comfortable to continue the trip until I had a doctor taking a look at my shoulder and we decided to take an early bus to Bangkok and then a taxi to Bangkok Hospital.
They took very good care of us and within an hour I had see the doctor and have had an X-Ray!
We were nervous before I was called back in to the Doctor, but he told me that he had good news - I had an inflammation in my shoulder but with medication I would be fine within a couple of days.
It's amazing how fast and good treatment you can get in Thailand (I know, I have previous experience of that):-)
So it was a very relaxed couple who got an unplanned night and day in Bangkok.
Sunday night we then took a VIP night bus to Khao Sok and we arrived here 6 am this morning.
